A Night at Playground, Kahnawake
Two things decide the shape of your evening before you leave home: when you cross the Honoré Mercier Bridge, and whether you are coming for the poker room upstairs or the machines on the gaming floor. The building never closes, so the question is traffic and company, not opening time.
Playground sits at 1500 Route 138, Unit C, in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawà:ke, Quebec. It opened in 2010 in the building that previously housed the Okwari Poker Palace, and a renovation completed in December 2023 reorganized it over several floors. It operates under the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission, not the Quebec provincial authority.
Plan the trip as a block of four to six hours and you will cover the drive, a meal and a session without rushing the last hand.
Hours and when to arrive
The poker room and the gaming floor run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. One independent review site places peak traffic between 7 PM and 2 AM on weekends, which is useful in both directions: arrive at 6 PM for a quieter table and a shorter wait at the cashier, or arrive at 9 PM if a full room is the point.
Major poker festivals change the arithmetic completely. World Series of Poker Circuit stops have run from March 24 to April 7, 2025, from August 18 to September 2, 2025, and a further stop is scheduled for November 2 to 17, 2026. During those weeks the floor fills, parking demand rises and table counts climb past the normal setup.
Where it is and how to get there
From downtown Montreal, published figures put the drive at 15 to 20 minutes, with Route 138 and the Mercier Bridge as the direct line in. The bridge carries four lanes, two per span, and links the LaSalle borough with Kahnawake and Châteauguay. It is also the single pinch point of the trip: it has been the site of political demonstrations over the years, so check conditions before leaving if you are on a schedule.
Without a car, rideshare is the practical option, with one visitor reporting a 20-minute Uber ride from the South Shore. Bus routes 31 and 32 serve the area, with the nearest stop, Route 132 / Face À Khanata, a two-minute walk away; the nearest shuttle station, Industriel / Saint-Jean-Baptiste, is a 15-minute walk. The first bus of the day, route 26, stops nearby at 5:03 AM.

Published machine counts vary from over 900 to over 1,000, with titles such as Lightning Link, Dollar Storm, Dragon Cash and Buffalo Diamond, plus electronic roulette, blackjack and baccarat. Poker table figures also differ by source and by period, from 44 up to more than 70, with over 100 tables cited during major events. The 2023 work put money into the interior as well: a series of five grayscale illustrations by Kahnawake artist Kyle Williams sits on a textured wall on the third floor.
The name also appears on the internet attached to products the Kahnawà:ke venue does not run itself, and an independent review site sorts out what actually operates as Playground online and who stands behind it.
Where to eat and drink
Dining is concentrated on the second floor. The Rail is the coal fire bistro, known for large portions, breakfast service and tax-included menu prices. Drunken Dragon covers sushi, noodle dishes, sake, cocktails and whisky. The steakhouse, named etc., lists premium cuts including Quebec Wagyu New York Strip and A5 Miyazaki Wagyu. Two lounges round it out: Babel for cocktails, tapas and shisha, and Esperanto for cigars and whisky.
Active poker players have long reported complimentary food and drink at the tables. That policy was rolled back to points redemption in 2019, with a pizza priced at $14 at the time, before management indicated a revised menu was coming.
Parking, the age rule and one caveat
On-site parking is described by visitors as free and well patrolled by security, with valet service reported as well. The age limit is 18, and a Playground Rewards card is worth setting up on arrival: the programme runs five tiers, everyone starts at Silver, and slot play earns one tier point per dollar cycled, redeemable for free play and entry to promotional events.
The honest caveat is service speed at busy hours. Reviewers repeatedly describe short-staffed stretches when drink and food orders at the tables slow down, and at least one 2025 visitor reported a slow player-card setup. Neither ruins the night, but both argue for arriving before the 7 PM rush rather than in the middle of it.
Is the trip worth it
For a Montreal-based evening, the maths is simple: a short drive, free parking, a room that does not close, three restaurants under the same roof, and a tournament calendar that has drawn the WPT, partypoker LIVE and WSOP Circuit stops, including the CA$5,000 Super Circuit Main Event with a CA$10 million guarantee. The 2017 WPT event here, a CAD$3,500 buy-in with 380 entries and a CAD$1,179,520 prize pool, is where Ema Zajmović became the first woman to win an open WPT title.
Entry is restricted to those 18 and over; set a budget and a stop time before you sit down.
