MTV Video Music Awards 2018: Awards and Ceremony Summary

It was a crazy night at the 35th MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, August 20th. At Radio City Music Hall in New York, everyone - fans and singers - came to watch the MTV show, which is held every year, to the delight of music fans. And this year has, like all the others, reserved a lot of surprises.

Childish Gambino was one of the big favorites of the competition. This Monday, August 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Childish Gambino - Donald Glover -, came out winner of the MTV Video Music Awards for which he was nominated in seven categories. An evening that tells you who has had the honor to attend live.
He was one of the big favorites of the competition. This Monday, August 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Childish Gambino - Donald Glover -, came out winner of the MTV Video Music Awards for which he was nominated in seven categories. An evening that tells you who has had the honor to attend live.

On the red carpet side (or rather pink), the flashes crackled at the arrival of Jennifer Lopez and Ariana Grande, both accompanied by their companions, Alex Rodriguez and Pete Davidson. Kylie Jenner was also present to support Travis Scott, the father of his daughter Stormi. If Rita Ora was alone, she still shined in a transparent black dress that highlighted, like Blake Lively, expected to award a prize alongside Anna Kendrick, which would be almost unnoticed with the former star of Gossip Girl. After playing the photographers' game while posing, nominees and guests took the direction of the Radio City Music Hall stage to begin the show. And it's the sexy Shawn Mendes who opened the ball.

Followed by Ariana Grande, Panic! at the disco, Nicki Minaj, Maluma, Aerosmith and the great Jennifer Lopez. Like every year, the MTV Video Music Awards recognize an artist whose career and talent have impacted the music industry. And it is none other than the bomba latina who has been nominated laureate. Moreover, if it remained to convince, the show of the 49-year-old singer has left more than one screwed in his seat. The American has chained her tubes, from the most recent to the oldest, a performance that has made everyone agree to believe the many applause (including ours) she received before receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. It is very emotional that the artist began her thanks, that she had to reiterate a few minutes later after her victory of best collaboration of the year with Cardi B and DJ Khaled.

Another highlight of the ceremony, Madonna's tribute to Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. In a long speech, the interpreter of Like a Virgin listed the reasons why she owed her career to the late singer. A brand of R-E-S-P-E-C-T hailed by all the public who did not hesitate to get up when the first notes of I say a little prayer resonated. Another homage, however more discreet, that of Rita Ora to Avicii. Winner of the best dance clip for Lonely Together on which she worked with the DJ, the singer had a thought for her friend tragically disappeared earlier in the year.

Of all categories, Childish Gambino is the winner. His music video This is America was not only named best choreography and best performance but was also voted best clip containing a message. The video was controversial when it was released in May. More than 100 million people had already watched it just a week after its release. A way for the artist to try to ban racism and violence in the United States. With three awards brought home, Childish Gambino can be sure of one thing: the message is delivered.
