Ay Wing’s Blends Retro Groove with Modern Edge in a Hypnotic Alternative Pop Anthem “Poison Ivy”
A lively swirl leaps from the speakers, reminiscent of a pop-art canvas drenched in neon camouflage. That’s the initial impression of Ay Wing’s single “Poison Ivy,” an alternative pop/indie R&B tapestry hailing from the United Kingdom. The track’s slinky, bass-infused groove conjures an old-school doo-wop meets disco resonance, capturing both hearts and dancing feet. It toys with the concept of identity and temptation, inviting listeners to teeter between rapture and reflection.
Though undeniably catchy, “Poison Ivy” risks overindulgence in its nostalgic haze, occasionally layering so many retro elements that the modern flair momentarily diminishes. Yet the hypnotic guitar riffs triumph, reigniting a lively spark just when the melody threatens to drift too deeply into vintage territory. The result is a dangerously addictive anthem: breezy enough for a summertime drive, yet thoughtful enough for a contemplative midnight walk.
Serving as the title track of Ay Wing’s forthcoming Poison Ivy EP (slated for release on February 7, 2025), this single foreshadows a voyage through alt-RnB, indie, and soul. The record also features the exuberant “Spacewalker,” the gut-wrenching “Healing,” the bittersweet “Limerence State,” and the sultry “Sugar Rush.” With spins on KEXP, a Listen To Berlin Award nod, and support from Amazing Radio UK, Ay Wing cements her growing renown.
Reflecting on the project, she affirms, “This EP is deeply personal, where I express raw, unfiltered emotions and my true self in the moment. Healing poured out like a stream of consciousness—vulnerable, real, and as honest as open-heart surgery.”
