Trip Carter Takes You On A Vibrant & Groovy Sonic Journey With “Excuses”
Fuelled by groove, attitude and an appealing melodic insight, American artist Trip Carter's latest track, titled "Excuses" boasts a musical concept, operatically inspired by Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me".
Indeed, while the track offers a cheerful and intoxicating production, the songwriting challenges the cheating in a couple, especially towards the woman. In other words, "Excuses" depicts the daily life of unfaithful men, and their ability to lie and maintain their innocence, despite the hard evidence found against them. The track could therefore be considered a neoteric version of Shaggy's song "It Wasn't Me", displaying the same cheerful texture. As the artist himself explains it, saying:
“I wanted to make my own modern version of “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy. I always thought it was crazy that that song is so happy & fun even though it’s about a dude cheating on his girl and getting caught red handed. In theory, girls should hate that song. Lyrically, it’s about a type of guy that a lot of girls do not fuck with. But because it’s so damn catchy and relatable, everyone loves it and sings along to it. That’s the exact vibe I wanted to capture with “Excuses”. I’m not here to champion infidelity or cheating, I just know that a lot of people can relate to both sides of that type of relationship. So, I figured I’d write a song about it.
